The Wardrobe Theatre, Easter Sunday, April 8th 2012

Review Written by Amy Self

Keda Breeze’s Hoochie Coochie Kabaret hosted an Easter evening of treats at The White Bear. A fantastic venue choice. Not a simple one-stage event, but a kinetic cabaret show. A walk-through array of rooms and performances. Featuring many artists, including students from Circo Media, various DJ sets and Suisse Tony’s Rock and Roll Bingo!

Members of the Invisible Circus offered face painting and an Invisible Photo Booth where the night’s memory could be captured for each and every guest.

A delightful ladybird welcomed one through the arched door, into a tardis of intrigue, where wonders never ceased! The cobbled walkway dazzled with the elevated rabbits and chicks of Roaming Acro, poised upon aerial hoops, offering a preface for the night to come.

One turn of the head gave way to incredible efforts made by the 300 guests. Dressed in various interpretations of Wonderland, there were steam punk explorers, Queens of Hearts, Alices, white rabbits and the simpleton twins, Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee.

Saffia opened The Queens Croquet Garden, the show’s main stage. She spun onlookers into a thread of intrigue. With such flexibility and ease she contorted, using a simple hoop as her only tool!

Unassuming gent, Vid Warren entered the stage with suitcase in hand. Instantly the crowd lulled in awe as he created acoustics deemed physically impossible with his varied beat boxing skills!

Rowan Fae bemused eyes with her adventurous piece; Amazonica. With a tribal essence Rowan showered the stage with colour as she teased the crowd with her Amazonian charm, smoothening her bust and buttocks in a multitude of painted colours once clothes were shed.

Next on stage came the first of three performances from Keda Breeze. Bound with rouge balloons, she began a teased strip cascading glitter with every ‘pop’. Her Exotic Performance Art costume soon became bare skin!

Deemed, “a child’s sex dream!” from one audience member, the Evil Twins performed in symmetrical synchronisation. The twins bent and balanced in choreographed bewilderment, captivating the audience in totality.

The Eat Me, Drink Me Bar presented Tabitha Tease, a beauty, encased in beads accompanied by the tunes of DJ Charlie Mega. Tabitha gave a sensual and captivating pole dancing show. Mad hatters and white rabbits congregated to watch the great heights and held poses reached from one meek yet, immensely strong female.

Amongst the watchful crowd wondered a magician to mystify the minds of onlookers. His card-based tricks defied the laws of logic and sensibility. Without any physical touch he exchanged an initialled 4-of-diamonds from my clasped teeth into his own. Spellbinding his public!

Keda finished the cabaret acts with a “primitive” fire show and her Jilted Southern Bride Act. Both very different in presentation, yet similarly leaving the audience gasping for more!

A wonderful show, with such skill and passion from each and every performer. A true inspiration!
