Coombe Lodge Wedding: Rachel & Howard

Coombe Lodge & St Andrews Church

Coombe lodge in Blagdon has to be an all time favourite for me, and when Rachel & Howard asked me to photograph for them their I was over the moon!  The light, and the beautiful warm wooden features of the lodge work so well with the vintage prime lenses I’ve started to use in my photography. Everyone at the wedding was so welcoming and friendly,  which makes taking fun and natural photographs all the more enjoyable. The weather was kind to us, and we managed to get some time outside to take some portraits.

Photographing in the church (although it’s very roomy and bright) is always a little tricky because of the wooden framework behind the alter, and the fact that the Vicar isn’t very keen for anyone other than the Bride and Groom to be at the front.  She’s learnt that my style of work is very unobtrusive, and most often doesn’t seem to mind me photographing from my favourite spot at the front now!  – i’m very happy about this!

The photos came out so well –  I’m very pleased with these!!

Bristol Wedding: Square Club

A Bristol Wedding at the Barkley Square Hotel.

Jess & Paul wanted a documentary style of photography for their wedding day, capturing moments as they happened, telling the complete story. The Leica cameras I use, and my experience from years of working as a street photographer allows me to capture these moments discreetly as everyone gets on with the celebrations!  They weren’t afraid of the more gritty black and white style that goes hand in hand with reportage photography – this allowed me a lot more creative freedom in the edit which I really enjoyed.

Their wedding was at the stylish and modern Barkley Square Hotel in Bristol’s city centre, and it worked perfectly with the relaxed feel they had wanted.  After the intimate ceremony,  drinks were taken out to the lawns on the square where we took some family portraits and some relaxed photographs as they walked through the gardens.  Jess had set up a hanging picture frame (along with a box of fancy dress goodies) for the guests to take their own ‘photo booth’ style images, which came out really well and certainly kept people amused!

The evening’s celebrations were in the downstairs cocktail bar, a funky and stylish  bar with colourful furniture, mood lighting, dance floor and plenty of room for the band.  Unfortunately very dark! A  great excuse to use my Leica & prime lenses…

ss Great Britain Wedding

A Wedding at Bristol’s ss Great Britain

Kate and Paul chose to get married on the  ss Great Britain in Bristol’s Floating Harbour. Paul had grown up in Australia and it was a difficult decision to ask his guests and family to travel all the way around the world to his life in Bristol. Fortunately the ss Great Britain bridged that gap a little, with its history of traveling to Melbourne (1852) – it was the perfect wedding venue!

The ship itself is magnificent. The ss Great Britain was designed to carry the rich and famous to New York and beyond. Its design and details reflect this both inside and out. The location on the waterfront is wonderful, and the views from the deck are stunning which gave me some great shots – even at night!

The ceremony was  held on the Promenade Deck, which is an intimate location lined with timber panels and beautiful mirrors. The guests gathered around, and the vows were exchanged below the huge glass skylight.  After, we went outside for photographs, and to celebrate on deck while the feast was being prepared to be served in the First Class Dining Saloon.

The DJ set up in the Hayward Saloon, which made a great spot for the 1st dance and evening celebrations. It was really useful having this third room to utilise instead of having to wait for the dining room to be turned around (which happens at so many weddings) as it kept the feeling lovely and relaxed.

It was a wonderful day, and I felt very welcome and very much part of the crowd – thanks guys!

Bristol Wedding: Leigh Woods & Clifton Suspension Bridge

A Wedding at the St. Mary the Virgin Church

Sebastian & Laura chose to have their spring wedding at Clifton’s St Mary the Virgin Church in Leigh Woods. The Church is beautiful, with wooded gardens and a red tiled roof – it was the perfect setting for their wedding. The ceremony was lovely, and the vicar kindly let me photograph from behind the alter, letting me get some wonderful portraits of Laura during the vows (I like to use the Leica 75mm F1.4 Summilux for these photographs, you can see why below). Confetti was thrown outside in the garden while the groomsmen were tying tin cans to the back of the convertible for the newly weds’ escape!

We had decided beforehand to visit the Clifton Suspension Bridge, to get some formal photographs of just Seb and Laura. Seb drove the car onto the grass, with the bridge behind him – you can’t beat that for a backdrop!!  After about 40 minutes of walking around and taking photographs we headed over to the reception at the Westbury-on-Tryn Village Hall.  It was a fantastic venue for the party. The staff set everything out and served the drinks, while Seb & Laura added the details and decorations to give the style that they wanted. A friend had set up a huge studio-style Photo Booth in the side room when the hog roast was served. Before the 1st dance, everyone enjoyed an amazing LED poi light show by an enthusiastic kilt wearer – very cool!

I felt so welcome and part of the party – thanks guys for a wonderful day!  I hope you enjoy the pictures :)

Egypt Mill Wedding

Wedding Videography & Photography

I was photographing with Ben and Molly from The Wedding Cut last friday at Egypt mill for Rachel & Andy’s beautiful outdoor wedding. The weather held out for the ceremony and just in time to get the group photos done. I shall put up some photos from the day later on once the edit is complete, but somehow Ben has managed to put together one of his now mindblowing Wedding Trailers in under a week! …beautiful stuff. I still haven’t quite worked out how he’s managed to blend the empty seating arrangement into the full blown wedding breakfast with all the guests… AND all while the camera is panning up! pure video magic.

…needless to say, if you are getting married in the cotswolds… The Wedding Cut is the videographer for you!

WEDDING: Festival Style

Festival style cornish wedding

Han & Mik were married in their beautiful village church near falmouth, Cornwall. They arrived in style, with Han’s Dad driving his vintage Morris Minor (which had been restored for the big day) and the Bridesmaids in a magnificent VW split screen campervan.

The party really started when everyone made their way back to the house where the couple (and friends) had been busy all week preparing the big field for this one day. There’s a huge circus tent in the centre of the field, all set up for the reception feast and dancing in the evening, surrounded by seating, bunting, , candles, wigwams, and bonfires – it was perfect!!

Friends were all invited to camp in a neighbouring fields, so that they could all enjoy the celebration without the worry of having to organise lifts and find accommodation. The fires burned long, and the music played till sunrise!! …what a party.

Enjoy the photos!

WEDDING: Eastwood Park

Simon and Kizie celebrated their marriage at the stunning Eastwood Park. Beautiful people, sunshine and rolling landscapes made this a wedding to remember.

Simon’s “magical trunk of mystery” was certainly a great addition to the evening’s party. The guests went wild dressing up in costumes, taking photographs of themselves through a backlit frame.
